DEMOLITION DERBY RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER
The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events, These rules shall govern the condition of all events and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.
NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OR SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/ OR REGULATIONS.
These rules are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, official or others. The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that, in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirement.
NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATIONS OR SPECIFICATION.
Any interpretation of or deviation from these ruled is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final. Any car, or driver deemed to be unfit, unsafe, or not within the intent of the rules, at the discretion of the race director will not be allowed to participate.
THE MANAGEMENT OF JOHNSON PRODUCTIONS, INC. DRIVER ELIGIBILITY.
Every participant must be over 16, and have a valid driver’s license. Any person under 18 years of age must have notarized release signed by parents, and or legal guardians; Minor Release forms are available from the Evergreen Speedway office. Anyone who is under a doctor’s care, is receiving Workman’s Compensation or is drawing sick benefits from any source must make their condition known and a decision will be made by track management as to that person’s eligibility to drive. It is up to the race director, tech officials, or promoter to decide if a driver is eligible to compete and they will decide if a driver may or may not participate. Their decision is final.
CAR ELIGIBILITY
Any stock American made passenger car or station wagon is eligible to run. No pick-up trucks, convertibles, carry-alls, vans, limo’s, hearses, ambulances or four-wheel drive vehicles will be allowed, NO Imperials built prior to 1977 are allowed for competition. To register the car and enter the racetrack, each car owner must produce the legal title, a notarized release of interest and or AVR from the State of Washington Department of Motor Vehicles for their car. All cars must be removed from the fairgrounds at the end of the event.. It is the responsibility of the driver of the car to see that their car completely satisfies the rules, including but not limited to all safety rules. The driver of each car represents to the promoter and all others that his car has satisfied all applicable rules, including but not limited to safety rules, whenever said driver participates in any warm-up, practice or competitive laps.
SAFETY RULES:
The driver’s seat must be mounted to the floor pan, and the seat back must be secured. All hardware and spacers must be made of metal. NO WOOD A seat belt and shoulder strap is MANDATORY. A four-point safety harness is highly recommended. The seat belt must be securely fastened to the floor. 1. Long sleeve shirt (NO NYLON) is MANDATORY for driver’s and it is strongly recommended that at all times driver’s wear a minimum four-layer driving suit made of fire-resistant material that effectively covers the body. It is also strongly recommended that drivers wear long underwear, headgear, socks, gloves and shoes made of fire-resistant material. Racing helmets are MANDATORY. It is recommended that helmets meet the specifications set forth in the Federal Regulations, Federal; Vehicles Safety Standard or meet the specifications set forth by the American National Standards Institute, Inc. Crash helmets with shields or goggles of approved racing type or safety glasses are MANDATORY. Helmets will be inspected by an official. Broken or cracked helmets will not be allowed. Helmets that do not pass Technical inspection will be confiscated until the end of the day’s event. Confiscated helmets not picked up will be destroyed. ALL HELMET RULES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. It is strongly recommended that at all times, while the car is being refueled or while fuel is being transported to and from the pit area, all crew involved should wear a minimum four-layer suit made of fire-resistant material that effectively covers the body. It is strongly recommended that crew wear long underwear, headgear, socks, gloves, and shoes made of fire-resistant material. It is strongly recommended that the crew wear headgear and a protective face shield. Any competition car entering the pit area must have a fully charged chemical fire extinguisher, of at least 2.5 pounds, mounted securely within the driver’s reach. This extinguisher must be mounted on a metal bracket (extinguishers CANNOT be taped or zip-tied to roll bars). It is strongly recommended that the car have a built in fire extinguisher system, but cannot be of dry powder (must be 1301 Halon or equivalent). All entrants must have in their pits at all times a fully charged 10 pound capacity dry powder fire extinguisher or its equivalent showing a current inspection certificate. All glass (windshield optional), side chrome, headlight rims, antennas, side mirrors, rear tail lights, carpeting, headliner, plastic ornaments, light bulbs and hub caps must be removed. If the windshield is removed, a screen of half inch or smaller steel mesh must be installed. Acrylic Lexan is also an acceptable substitute. All cars must have a minimum of one (1) windshield bar installed from top to bottom, evenly spaced, attached securely and be a minimum of ¼”x 1” steel. The bar may be placed on the outside of the windshield. All loose foreign material, such as broken glass and/or trunk items must be removed before arriving at the track. STRICTLY ENFORCED. Window and door handle mechanisms must be removed. Center of steering wheel must be padded. The original gas tank MUST be removed. A five (5) gallon metal jeep can or eight (8) gallon metal boat tank. The can must be securely chained two (2) ways. All fittings must be secured and ALL GAS LINES MUST HAVE SCREW TYPE HOSE CLAMPS. NO LEAKS ALLOWED. Tanks must be mounted between the rear wheels, behind the firewall, or in the rear seat area on the passenger side, and covered. A large drain hole must be cut directly beneath the tank. Use twenty (20) gauge steel-minimum. ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED UNLESS PERMISSION IS OBTAINED FROM THE TRACK PRIOR TO THE EVENT. NO EXCEPTIONS! When fuel lines go through sheet metal, they must be insulated and clear of all sharp edges. No fuel lines inside of the car, except the tank connections. All gas tanks MUST NOT EXCEED eight (8) gallons. There will be NO plastic tanks, lines or fitting allowed for any part of the fuel system. NO glass or plastic filters. FUEL INJECTED CARS PLEASE CALL FOR INFORMATION
No copper, aluminum lined or starting fluid systems of any kind are allowed. You must have either an air cleaner or suitable flame arrester on the carburetor. 2. A large hole at least eight (8) inches in diameter must be cut in the hood for fire extinguisher access. (DO NOT put the hole directly above the carburetor), and remove all sharp edges. This procedure must be used regardless of whether hood bolts are used. The driver’s door must be reinforced. A minimum of (6) inches, and a maximum of twelve (12) inch steel channel, ¼” thick, and extending approximately six 6” beyond the door. Concrete will not be used in lieu of a door bar. Passenger door bars are optional. A rollover bar must be installed between the roof and the floor directly behind the driver’s seat. Material used is to be a minimum of 2” OD pipe or steel equivalent. The headrest may be mounted to this bar. A headrest is MANDATORY. They must be padded sturdy and securely installed. NO sharp edges or corners. NO railroad track or guardrail will be allowed. All sharp edges must be removed. To properly install the rollover bar a minimum 6” x 6” flat steel plate must be welded on the 2” minimum OD material at the top and bottom. It will be bolted to the roof and the floor with 6” x 6” flat steel plates on the exterior, using at least four (4) ½” bolt at each end. All cars must have a cross brace from post to post behind the driver. The cross brace shall be a minimum of 2” OD pipe or steel equivalent. To properly install the cross brace a minimum 6” x 6” flat steel plate must be welded on the 2” OD material at the top and bottom. It will then be bolted to both with 6” x 6” flat steel plates on the exterior, using at least four (4) ½” bolts at each end NO I BEAM OR RAILROAD TRACK. All doors must be fastened with two (2) 3/16” maximum chains, or welded (subject to tech). Hoods may be secured with up to six bolts or ready-rods, or chains. The rods may be a maximum of 3 ft in length and 1 inch in size. Only two of the six may be attached to the frame or box structure in unibody vehicles. Lincolns may only use two bolts or ready rods half way back. Trunks may be bolted halfway. All bolts or ready rods may use a 4” square top plate or washer and bottom plate or washers. If chain is used, 3/16” maximum and not more than 4 ft in length. Tailgates on station wagons must be chained, welded, or removed (subject to tech). If dash is removed or altered a dash bar in required. Dash bar must be from a minimum of 1 ½” pipe with 6” x 6” plates on each end. End plates must be bolted through the outside of the car with a minimum of four (4) ½” bolts. The spreader bar must be mounted above the steering column. All key locking on steering wheels must be removed or made inoperable. The engine must remain stock. Stock motor mounts must be used and cannot be relocated. Engine need not be made for make. No diesel engines. Any carburetor is allowed, with one (1) four barrel maximum. No speed equipment will be allowed. No aluminum intakes. The distributor must be in front of the firewall. No modifying or cutting of firewall. If firewall has been cut, holes must be covered with steel and welded or riveted. No cooling system other than stock, in stock location. Fans may be removed. Radiators may be substituted, if placed in stock positions and angles. NO ANTIFREEZE ALLOWED Air conditioning systems must be drained and made inoperable. NOTE: ANTIFREEZE AND FREON MAY NOT BE DRAINED OR DISCARDED ON EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY PREMISES. Only steel rims are allowed. No reverse rims are allowed. Cement and other foreign substances are NOT ALLOWED IN TIRES. Tire make and type are optional. Only one tube per tire. One tire per rim. Inflated with air only, Tires may be screwed to rims. All bumpers should be chained to the vehicle. The chains must in no way strengthen the vehicle. Hydraulic bumper cylinders may be welded with one (1) continuous weld. Roof top numbers signs are MANDATORY, and must be minimum eighteen (18) inches high. They will be mounted with four (4) L brackets with bolts and nuts. Numbers are to be at least sixteen (16) inches high and two (2) inches
wide, and are to be written on both sides. Numbers must be clearly visible and legible. If your rooftop sign falls off or down, you could be disqualified. 3. TO OBTAIN A CAR NUMBER PLEASE CONTACT THE SPEEDWAY OFFICE AT (360) 805-6100. Cars must have working brakes upon entering track. Exhaust is to extend behind the drivers compartment or through the hood 92 DBA at 75 feet. STRICTLY ENFORCED. Horns and radios must be disconnected. The driver’s door must be padded. No sharp edges or protruding bolts. Transmission coolers are allowed for automatic transmission powered cars, provided they have no leaks. The transmission cooler is not allowed inside the driver’s area. The transmission dipstick must be removed and an overflow hose must be fastened to the tube using a metal hose clamp. The hose must drop below the firewall toward the ground. The battery may be relocated to the inside of the car on passenger side. The battery must be fully enclosed, vented through the floor and chained to the floor in such a manner that it cannot come loose (BUNGEE OR RATCHET STRAPS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.) An ON/OFF switch must be installed within reach of the driver when belted in. The switch must be clearly marked and visible outside the car. CAR PREPARATION REGULATIONS “ MUST NOT DO” NO REINFORCING TO FRONT OR REAR OF CARS ALLOWED WELDING OF FRAME SEAMS ALLOWED (NO ADDITIONAL MATERIAL ALLOWED) WHEN REPAIRING DAMAGED CARS, NO MATERIAL STRONGER THAN WHAT YOU ARE REPAIRING MAY BE USED. WHEEL WELLS CANNOT BE TRIMMED, EXCEPT WHEN NECESSARY. (LIKE BODY DAMAGE CAUSING TIRE TO RUB) FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION MUST REMAIN STOCK (no truck rear ends). YOU MAY NOT REVERSE SPRING SHACKLES, OR ALTER THE HEIGHT OF THE CARS. TIE ROD’S CENTER LINK MAY BE MODIFIED OR REINFORCED. NOTCHING OF FRAMES OR BODIES IS PERMITTED, NOT TO AN EXCESS. NO SWITCHING OF FRAME CLIPS. FRAME CLIPS MUST BE FOR MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR NO SPRING SPACERS PERMITTED. NO OVERLOAD OR AIR OR BOOSTER SHOCKS. NO ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS ALLOWED!!!! (unless previously approved) TRAILER HITCHES AND BRACKETS MUST BE REMOVED.
DRIVERS AND/OR PIT CREW CONDUCT
There will be NO consumption of alcohol or any illegal substances in the pits or on the track before or during the Demolition Derby. Owners and drivers are responsible for their pit crews and their actions. VIOLATORS WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE PITS ALONG WITH CAR HE OR SHE SIGNED IN UNDER. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS, AND YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO A FINE. . FIGHTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND VIOLATORS WILL BE BANNED FROM THE TRACK (THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING) Theft or sabotage will result in immediate suspension and/or fined. 4 People teaming up together in order to win, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Track Officials will NOT be subjected to any abusive or improper conduct or language at any time. Cars intentionally hitting other cars in the driver’s door will be disqualified. Official’s decision is fina!l
IN THE PITS Five (5) MPH speed limit in the pits at all times.
Spot checks may be made at any time after a car has passed through tech inspection by any track official(s). No one will ride on the outside of any car or car trailer at any time; Offending cars may be disqualified and or fined. Jacks stands must be utilized at all times. EVERYONE MUST ATTEND THE PIT MEETING-BOTH THE DRIVERS AND CREW Any car sitting out of competition for two (2) minutes or more, without making contact is considered no longer competitive and automatically disqualified by officials. If your car is under powered, or not operating properly, and you cannot make contact with another car for (2) minuets you will be disqualified. Sandbagging, or not participating in full capacity of your car’s ability you will be disqualified. This determination will be made by the officials, and their decision is final. The winner of the race will be determined by the last car the officials see make contact without another car making contact with an eligible car for (2) minuets. A car that has been deemed to be disqualified, or out of the competition, is not eligible for a contact hit. It is the drivers responsibility to know who is, and is not eligible. Displays of poor sportsmanship are not acceptable and will not be tolerated. The manner in which the program is run and any extra events that will be added, or removed, to the event is up to the official’s discretion. Only the driver is allowed in or on a car while the car is on the track. All cars may be teched after the Demolition Derby main within thirty (30) minutes of the checkered flag, for adherence to the rules. Payout will be in the office approximately 30 minutes after the end of the event. THE TRACK OFFICIALS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ENFORCE ANY RULE SO LISTED IN THIS RULE BOOK.
