2010 NASCAR Renegade V-8 rules

EXPLANATION

Drivers must be NASCAR member, 14 years of age or older, and registered as a Evergreen Speedway driver. Any drivers or crew members, 14 to 18 years of age must present a notarized release, SIGNED BY BOTH PARENTS OR LEGAL GUARDIANS, to the Speedway before entering the pit area. Anyone entering the pit area must have a pit pass.

Decision on interpretation of the rules by the head Technical Inspector will be final. No changes from a stock production automobile or component parts, except as listed. IF IT DOESN’T SAY YOU CAN DO IT, YOU CAN’T. Any equipment that the officials consider exotic or not in the INTENT of the rules will be considered illegal. THIS IS A HOBBY/ENTRY LEVEL CLASS!!!!!!!!!!

COMPETING MODELS:

Open to all American made steel bodied passenger cars. No station wagons, Jeeps, convertibles, sports cars or pickups.

GENERAL RULES

Minimum weight is 3200 lbs.  Minimum added weight size is 5 lbs. Added weight must be painted white with car number inscribed on it.  Weight may be added or changed, at the discretion of the officials, in the interest of fair competition.

Minimum wheelbase is 101”.     Both sides must be equal. NADA book will be used to determine wheelbase.

Minimum ground clearance of all components, except exhaust, will be 5”. Exhaust clearance is 4”. All measurements will be made with driver out of car.

Engine, body and frame must be of the same manufacturer. Exception is the “88958602” crate engine.

Tires may not protrude more than 1” outside of original body lines. Wheels will not exceed 8-in width. Must be steel. No wheel spacers allowed. Maximum backspace of 3 inches.

Maximum left front camber of 1.5 degrees.

One way or two way communication (radios – scanners etc.) with drivers not allowed.

3.    ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS:

a.      Stock production V-8 engines only. No interchange between  makes ( Ford to Ford GM to GM ) Engine must be available to the general public to purchase. EXCEPTION WILL BE THE USE OF THE SEALED APPROVED “88958602” GM CRATE ENGINE.

b.     Engine must be stock OEM. All internal parts must be OEM or OEM replacement parts for the make of engine. Maximum engine size of 360 cubic inches plus allowance of .030 overbore on Mopar 360 engine, all others are 360 cu. In. max.

c.      Engine must remain in stock location.

d.     Stock flat top or dished pistons only.  Pistons may not exceed deck height.

e.      Stock OEM steel rods only. Stock OEM crankshaft either cast or steel.

f. Flat tappet or hydraulic camshaft only with maximum lift not to exceed .500.

g.     No gear drives or aftermarket distributors. Aftermarket modules and/or coils permitted

h.     No stroked or destroked engines.

i.  Stock OEM cast cylinder heads only. GM Performance, Ford Performance and MOPAR Performance heads not allowed. G.M. Vortec heads, standard car and truck original equipment, allowed. Vortex large chamber heads NOT allowed. No porting, polishing, gasket matching or acid dipping allowed. Heads must have all casting marks and lines in place. Valve spring size may be changed. Maximum valve size. Chev – intake 2.02 – exhaust 1.60 – Ford – 351c –(4v) intake 2.190 – exhaust 1.709 – Ford 351c (2v) – 2.040 – exhaust 1.654 – Ford 351w – intake 2.02 – exhaust 1.60 – Mopar 318 / 340 / 360 / intake 2.020 – exhaust 1.600 –

j. Stock diameter screw in or pinned studs and guide plates allowed. No stud girdles.

k.      Stock Mopar and Ford rocker arms only. Chev 1.5 ratio only.  Roller rocker or roller tip rocker arms not allowed.

l.  Exhaust manifolds must be stock OEM from a standard production car. No headers or header type manifolds allowed. Maximum inside diameter on all exhaust parts is 2”. No polishing, grinding or acid dipping allowed.

m.   Fuel pump must be stock OEM and mount in stock location for engine used. No electric fuel pumps. No fuel cooling devices on or around fuel system.

n.     Stock dampeners only – Crate “602” engine must use stock, as provided with engine, dampener only.

o.     Stock steel or cast iron flywheels only. No aluminum or racing flywheels or clutches allowed. Must be stock pressure plate and single disc clutches only.

p.      After market oil pans allowed.

CARBURETOR AND INTAKE:

a.      Two barrel or 4 bbl.  factory installed  type manifolds only. Must be Ford to Ford, Gm to GM etc.

b.     Any stock 2 or 4 barrel carburetor allowed. No HP or Performance carbs allowed. No gold or premium series. Only change allowed is removal of choke blade and shaft, jets, accelerator pumps, and accelerator pump cams. Nothing else. Maximum 650cfm. Holley 4777 is recommended. Part number must remain on carburetor. No polishing, grinding or drilling of holes. Choke horn may not be removed. Boosters may not be changed. Size and shape must not be altered. Height must remain standard. Venturi area must not be altered in shape or size. Base plate must not be altered in shape or size. Butterflies must not be thinned or tapered. Idle holes may be drilled in butterflies. Butterfly screw heads must not be altered in any way. Throttle shafts must remain standard, may not be thinned or cut in any manner. Power valve check ball allowed. Two throttle return springs are required. All other parts will remain as carb came out of the box. Metering blocks will be as per original manufactured and shipped design. No four corner idle screws.

c.      Only a 1”maximum metal spacer between manifold and carb. Spacer must be metal and non- adjustable of open design or 4 hole design with straight, no taper, of inside openings allowed. Air deflectors or directors in intake manifold and/or spacer not allowed. Only one gasket per side allowed with the maximum thickness of .060. Holley to Rochester manifold may use the following adapters with no modifications Mr. Gasket 1932 or NAPA 7351135.

d.     Aluminum intake manifolds allowed. No porting, polishing, gasket matching or adding of epoxy or similar substance allowed.

e.      Only round paper type air cleaners allowed. Minimum of 12” diameter and maximum of 16” diameter. Minimum of 11/2” in height and maximum of 4” in height. The air filter may not be sprayed with any type of chemical or liquid. The top and bottom must be the same diameter. The air cleaner top hole may not protrude more than 1” below top of lid. Air must enter the carb from the side of air cleaner. No tubes, funnels or any other device that may direct the flow of air into the carb will be allowed. No air boxes. No K&N type filters. Paper type only.

TRANSMISSIONS:

a.      Any stock three, four speed manual transmission allowed. No five or six speeds. Automatic transmissions with a full size working, OEM, torque converter allowed.

b.     All forward and reverse gears must be in working order.

c.      All cars with a manual transmission must have an approved scatter shield around the bell housing or a constructed shield of ¼” steel over the bell housing section of the floorboard. Reinforced belting of no less than 3/8 in. thick may be used with the approval of installation by NASCAR officials only. Lakewood bell housings recommended.

DRIVESHAFTS:

a.      Drive shafts and universals must be of one piece and made of steel.

b.     All drive shafts must be painted white.

c.      Must have two 360 degree solid steel brackets, no less than 2” wide and ¼” thick or steel chain placed not more than 12” from each universal joint and fastened in such a manner to contain the driveshaft in the event of a failure.

BODIES:

a.      Bodies must be OEM and remain stock except as listed. Aftermarket approved frontends, hoods, noses and tail sections allowed. Homemade doors may be used.  All holes in body caused by removal of lights etc. must be covered. Rear tail section must be covered, no holes or devices to funnel air out of the trunk area. Roof, quarters and deck lid must be OEM. No dirt or downforce noses. Aftermarket body components must be manufactured by five star or aluminum Racing Products.

b.     All glass must be removed except the windshield. All chrome strips, door handles, upholstery, sound deadening, door panels, headliner, carpeting, floor pads, stock seats and other items must be removed. The windshield may be of lexan (no plexiglass). Rear window not allowed. Side air deflectors not allowed in any side windows.

c.      All body panels must remain stock and intact. Hood and deck lid may be lightened. Front fender inner panels may be removed and rear inner fender panels must be enclosed with the stock panel or sheet metal of no less than .035. Opening in trunk area only as large to allow for the installation of the fuel cell.

d.      No sharp edges allowed. All edges must be rolled and bumpers strapped to fenders.

e.       Full floorboards and firewall required. Must be stock and not manufactured from sheet metal. Front and rear firewall must be sealed from driver compartment. No modification of floor pan allowed!

f. If stock doors are used they must be welded and/or secured on all four corners.

g. Spoilers may be mounted no further back than the back edge of stock trunk lid or hatch in closed position. Not to exceed 5” in height. No rudders, wires, or forward mounting brackets permitted.

h.     All cars must have a functional windshield wiper and defroster system.

MIRRORS:

a.      A side rear view mirror may not extend outside the body lines of the car. Rear view mirror allowed.

RADIATOR:

a.      Radiator must mount in engine compartment.

b.     Aftermarket aluminum radiators allowed. Electric fans allowed.

c.      All cars must have a 1 gallon catch can.

d.     ANTIFREEZE NOT ALLOWED.

SUSPENSION:

a.      All suspension components must be OEM and without modifications. No aftermarket, or adjustable ball joints allowed. Ball joints must attach to A-frame in stock, unaltered position. Must be identical to factory production.

b.     Springs must be OEM type. Springs may be cut or bent.

c.      No external adjustable weight jacking devices on springs allowed. Any device to change weight or pressure of spring must require the removal of either ball joint.

d.     One shock per wheel, mounted in the factory position. No racing shocks. Shocks must be steel. Shocks must be non – adjustable and non rebuildable. All shocks must be approved by NASCAR officials. NOTE – EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO KEEP EXPENSIVE SHOCKS OUT OF THIS CLASS.

e.      Approved lowering blocks and ladders allowed.

f. All suspension mounting points must be stock and untouched. Camber adjustments can only be made using longer bolts, shims etc. Material cannot be added to aid in adjustments. Upper and lower A frame mounts must be in original position. Strut type frontends may reinforce mounting but adjustments are limited to stock adjustment holes and spacing.

REARENDS:

a.      Stock open rear ends for make and model only. No truck or quick change rearends allowed. No locked or welded rear ends. Posi-traction, limited slip, tight side or spider gears not allowed. Rearend must rotate freely when turned by hand. Only one OEM thrust washer per side permitted.

b.   AFTERMARKET AXLES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED –

ESPECIALLY ON THE RIGHT REAR.

C. C-clip eliminator kits for that type of axle, allowed.

BRAKES:

a.      Four wheel, stock, foot operated brakes are mandatory.

b.     Calipers must be solid mounted, not free floating.

c.      Disc brake rotors cannot be drilled. OEM or stock replacement rotors only.

d.     No proportioning vales are allowed unless stock. No brake bias adjusting devices allowed.

e.      Front brakes can be disc or drum but rear must be drum.

f. Aftermarket clutch pedals allowed. Brake pedals must be stock.

Fuel Cell:

If the fuel cell is installed through the trunk floor, the car must have a bar installed at the rear of the fuel cell. The bar must be a minimum of 1 ¾” x .090 thickness and must attach to the frame rails and extend down and across the bottom of the fuel cell, with a center support bar that attaches to the rear cross member. (Protector bar is not required if fuel cell is installed above the floor of the trunk).

WINDOW SCREEN:

A nylon window screen must be installed in the left side glass opening. Must be made from nylon material. The minimum window screen size shall be 22” wide by 16” high. All window screen mounts must be welded to the roll cage. The window screen, when in the closed position, must fit tight and be secured with a quick release type lever.

FUEL

Fuel shall be automotive gasoline only.

The gasoline shall not be blended with alcohol, ethers, or other oxygenates and it shall not be blended with anine, or its derivatives, nitro compounds or other nitrogen containing compounds.

The Speedway reserves the right to require all cars to use the same fuel.

Any device to cool fuel not allowed.

The use of a commercially manufactured fuel cell is mandatory.

The normal fuel cell dimensions are 32 5/8” by 8 7/8”.

The maximum fuel cell capacity shall be 22 gallons.

No other materials, other than the standard foam provided by the manufacturer, are permitted to make the fuel cell meet the 22 gallon limit.

The bottom of the fuel cell must have a minimum ground clearance of 11”.

WHEELS:

Eight inch maximum width steel only, racing wheels or approved white spoke or equivalent.

Minimum offset is 3”, measured from back of wheel to lug nut seat.

Wheel studs will be a minimum of 5/8”. Stud must pass completely through nut when wheel is tight.

TIRES:

All racers in this division must use the Renegade V-8 tire. Tire type and manufacturer TBA.

Tires may not be soaked, cut, grooved to change the design or hardness of the tire.

HELMETS:

It is recommended that all helmets meet the specifications set forth in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard regulations or the American Standards Institute, Inc. ALL HELMETS MUST BE APPROVED BY OFFICIALS BEFORE COMPETITION. Must be current SNELL rated.

SEATS

Aluminum racing type seat only. No fiberglass or stock bucket seats.

A padded head rest approved by Tech Officials is required.

Seat and seat belts must mount to the roll cage, not to the floor pan. Must use Grade 8 bolts and large flat washers.

SEAT BELTS AND SHOULDER HARNESS:

A quick release lap belt no less than 3” wide is compulsory. Both ends of the lap belt must be fastened to the roll bar with high quality bolts, not less than 3/8” in diameter.

Shoulder harness must be no less than 3” wide and must come from behind the driver’s seat. Where the harness crosses the roll cage, it must pass through a steel guide welded to the roll cage, that will prevent the harness form sliding from side to side. Shoulder harness inertia reels cannot be used.

A center (crotch) belt must be securely mounted to lower seat frame at the bottom.

Where the belt passes through the seat edges, it must have a grommet installed, be rolled, and/or padded to prevent cutting the belt.

All seat belts and shoulder harnesses must connect at the lap with an approved quick release buckle.

Seat belts must be dated by the manufacturer and must no be used beyond five years after the manufacture date.

ELECTRICAL SWITCH LOCATION:

It is required that a labeled on/off switch be located on the roll bar behind the driver’s seat or near the center of the car or center of dash. The switch must be wired to the battery cable in a manner that would cut off all electrical power to the car.

STEERING:

A steel quick release steering wheel is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Center of steering wheel hub must be padded acceptable to Tech Officials.

Steering lock mechanisms must be removed. No tilt columns. Steering shafts may be changed from OEM and is recommended.

ACCESSORIES:

Race cars will not be permitted to carry onboard computers, micro-controlled processors, recording devices, electronic memory chips, digital readout gauges or traction control devices.

MUFFLERS:

All cars shall be equipped with exhaust systems, including mufflers with no leaks or holes.

No cars shall exceed 92 DBA at 75 feet.

Maximum exhaust shall be 2 1/2 ” ID Exhaust pipes must extend past driver and exit between door and the rear tire.

BATTERY:

Battery may remain in the engine compartment, be securely mounted in an enclosed box and accessible from under the hood or relocated inside of car. If inside of car, it must be securely mounted in a protective container. It can be no further back than the stock rear firewall and cannot protrude through the floor. The battery box will be a minimum of ¼ inch steel or aluminum, six sided and not significantly larger than the battery.

NUMBERS:

A minimum 24” high, three stroke number is required on the door area (and only on door area) of BOTH sides of car. A minimum 30” high, three” stroke number is required on the top of car facing the right side. If the officials cannot see your number, you may not be scored.

FIRE CONTROL:

Race cars must have fire extinguishers securely mounted within reach of the driver. This extinguisher must be mounted on a metal mounting bracket (no extinguisher may be taped to roll bars). It is strongly recommended that each car have built in fire extinguisher equipment but it cannot be of the dry power type. All entrants should have in their pits at all times of fully charged 15 pound capacity dry powder fire or its equivalence, showing current inspection certificate.

It is strongly recommended that suits of fire retardant material that effectively cover the body from neck to ankles and wrists, along with fire retardant or leather shoes, be worn on the racing surface. It is strongly recommended that at all times drivers wear at least a two layer driving suit made of fire retardant material that effectively covers the entire body. It is also strongly recommended that drivers wear long underwear, headgear made of fire retardant material. It is required that the driver wear leather or fire retardant gloves and shoes.

It is strongly recommended that at all times, while the car is being refueled or while fuel is being transported from the pit area, all crewmen involved should wear at least a two layer suit made of fire resistant material that effectively covers the body. It is also strongly recommended that the crew members wear long underwear, headgear, socks, gloves and shoes made of fire resistant material, plus protective eyewear.

ROLLBARS

A. Round steel tubing 1 ¾” x .090 in minimum seamless roll-over bars are compulsory for the basic roll cage and must be approved by the Tech committee. Aluminum and or other soft metals are not allowed. All connectors must be welded.

On unitized bodies cars, the cage must be attached to 6” square plates, at least 3/16” thick. The plated must be fish-plated to the plates with the same specifications by four 3/8” bolts.

A minimum of 4 door bars are required on the left side, with two bars required on the right side. The left side door bars must curve out to the outermost part of the door skin. It is mandatory that a piece of 1/8” steel be welded to the door bars. The material must be placed between the door bars and the door skin and will cover the seat area.

A dash bar connecting the front cage uprights is required.

A wing window bar is required on the driver’s side and must be approved roll bar material.

Only two bars (one each side) may pass through the firewall. The bars will attach to the front roll bar cage legs and attach to the radiator protector bar, with no additional supports. Two bars may attach to the rear roll cage legs and must extend past the fuel cell.

All roll bars within the drivers reach, along with the steering hub, must be padded.

No bars, xing or tying frames together under the car.

The radiator protector will consist of a maximum of five bars, maximum 1 ½” I.D. schedule 40 tubing, located in the following positions. Two bars upward from the frame horns, one bar across the front of the radiator, two bars mounted to the frame in front of the A-frames and connected to the upright bars.

No bars may be wider than the front frame horns.

GENERAL INFORMATION

We expect all participants to take pride in being part of our entertainment. Racing entertainment is what we sell to the public, and we will not tolerate anyone or anything that detracts from our show. Cars, in the opinion of the officials, that lack in appearance or are deemed unsafe, will not be allowed to race until acceptable.

A.       All car construction rules will be decided by NASCAR tech officials. Burden of proof, on any concern, will be the responsibility of the owner and/or the driver.

B.       All NASCAR Renegade V-8 car numbers will be assigned by the Evergreen Speedway office (360) 805-6100 – Numbers must be renewed every year.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY

1.    Have ambulance attendant check you out and fill out an accident report.

2.    GET MORE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF NECESSARY.

3.    If you have follow-up treatments, advise your doctor of the following
