1st Responders Night Sept. 7 – $7 Night
On Saturday September 7th Evergreen Speedway will host the annual Economy Fence 1st Responders Night at the Races. Besides a tribute to our 1st Responders the night will feature three visiting series and three local divisions. The Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks, Interstate Batteries NASCAR Hornets and V-8 Extremes are the local divisions with heated points chases in the Street Stock and Hornet Divisions. The WESCO Sprints, Columbia River Legends and NW Vintage Modifieds are the three visiting series. Everyone but the Hornets will be on the 3/8-mile paved oval, with the Hornets on the road course. Special pricing for this fantastic night of action with 1st Responders, Teens with ASB cards and 5 and under all FREE. All other tickets are just $7.00. Racing starts at 6pm. Front gates will open at 4pm. Some of the heat races will be from 5pm-6pm to accommodate all the expected cars.
Street Stock point leader Roger Drake will try to add to his 28-point lead for the 2013 division championship. Jason McQuinn will be trying to close that margin heading into next week’s championship race. Drake was able to win last week’s feature and McQuinn had trouble getting to the front. This will be an important week for both of the top two who are both looking for their first NASCAR Street Stock title.
Cyril Greenawalt leads the Hornet division by 11-points over Scott Hunt. Hunt won last week’s main and closed in on the title. Greenawalt is after his first speedway title as is Hunt. Including Saturday’s race the Hornet division has three remaining to decide who will be the 2013 champion. They will be on the 3/8-mile next week September 14 and on the road course for their championship on September 21.
The WESCO Sprints (Washington Econo Sprint Car Organization) will be making their first trip to Evergreen Speedway this season. On the 3/8-mile these winged sprint cars are very fast. Drivers expected are point leader Cody Stewart, Tim Halliday, Danny Mathews , Doug McClees and Todd Coleman.
The last time the Columbia River Legends were here at Evergreen Speedway the last lap and last turn decided the winner of their feature race. Young Parker Stephens won by a few feet with the pass on Duane Swanson. They brought 20-cars with them on June 8 and that many or more are expected for their last visit this season to the ‘Northwest Center of Racing’, Evergreen Speedway.
This will be the NW Vintage Modifieds last race of the season. Paul Field and Grant Clother have a good battle for the championship. Others expected will Robert Rux, John Mustered and Kyten Jones plus many others.
V-8 Extremes are a division of bump-to-pass drivers and always keep the fans well entertained with their crazy style of driving. Not knowing what the main event will be from Flag Pole to Figure 8 these drivers are prepared for anything.
