Scott Wins Super Figure Eight 100 at Evergreen Speedway

Greg Scott from Snohomish, WA won the ‘US ARMY Night at the Races’ Super Figure Eight 100-lap main. The race ran green to checkers unabated by any caution flags. The winner of the Stinger 8 main was defending division champion Steve Peters of Monroe, WA. Also from Monroe, WA, Josh Beckel won his second main in as many races this season in the new Extreme V-8 Division. Ryan Williams of Woodinville, WA won the Small Car Demolition Derby. Visiting traveling series Northwest Vintage Modified main event winner was Jim Jones of Sultan, WA.

Scott grabbed the lead from Brian Gunderson, from Maple Valley, WA, just before the half-way point of the Super Figure Eight main. Using traffic to block in Gunderson, Scott made the pass and was able to keep enough of a cushion that Gunderson and third place finisher Shane Sawin from Clearview, WA could not retake the lead.

Stinger 8 winner Peters held a precarious lead throughout the race with friend and teammate Lance O’Grain of Monroe, WA on his tail. On victory stage Peters commented, “I am very tough to pass in the latter stages of a race.” When interviewed after the race O’Grain said, “He (Peters) is to tough to pass at the end.” Third place went to Joselyn LaFleur from Monroe, WA.

Beckel made it two in a row to start the 2011 season in the new Extreme V-8 class. The main was run as Bump-to-Pass on the 1/5 mile oval.

Jones won at his home track as the NW Vintage Modifieds made a trip to Evergreen Speedway in many years. Mike Clother kept it close for a while during the 25-lap main. Jones was able to open a comfortable lead in the last five laps. Bobby Wheeler Jr. finished a distant third.

The finish of the Small Car Derby had Williams making the last hit before stalling his car. Second place went to Russ Stotler and third to Darren Dale.

Next up at Evergreen Speedway on Saturday April 30 is the Beacon Plumbing Weekly Racing Series ‘Car Sponsor Appreciation Night at the Races’. The night features the return to action for the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models, Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks, Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks, Cub Scouts of America Mt. Baker Council Hornets and a special 100-lap main for the Stinger 8’s. The racing begins at 6pm. Call 360-805-6100 for tickets. The speedway’s web page is located at www.evergreenspeedway.com.

US ARMY Extreme Night at Evergreen Speedway April 23rd

Saturday night April 23rd Evergreen Speedway hosts the first of the season US Army Extreme Night at the Races. The busiest intersection in the Northwest will be the X of the figure eight track where Highways 522 and 2 collide. The NASCAR Super Figure Eight Division will have a 100-lap main. That equates to 200 passes through the X. The sporty Stinger 8 Division will also be slicing and dicing their way through the X during their double point’s main. In addition the traveling Northwest Vintage Modified Racing Association makes a rare visit to the ‘Super Speedway of the West’ along with a Small Car Demolition Derby, filling the active night of extreme action. The ‘Below Average White Band from Everett, WA will perform for the fans during pre-race. Front Gates will open at 4pm and racing starts at 6pm.

The Super Figure Eight Division 100-lap main will feature the best in the Northwest, all aiming towards the winner’s purse and the glory of winning the first Extreme Night feature division main. Expected for this race will be defending division champion Jake Repin of Monroe, WA, last week’s main event winner Brian Gunderson of Maple Valley, WA, Doug Delfel from Everett, WA, Steve Shoenfeldt of Marysville, WA and Quenton Boreson from Monroe, WA. There will be many more with the same ambition.

Double points will be awarded to the competitors of the popular Stinger 8 Division. Lance O’Grain of Monroe, WA will be vying to add to his slim point lead for the 2011 season championship. The father son team from Monroe, WA Steve and Sean Peters will try to gain the point lead. Also expected are Ben Chandler of Bellevue, WA and Jeff Repin of Monroe, WA. There will be a full complement of teams on hand for this important night in the chase for the division crown.

The NW Vintage Modifieds travel in for their one and only 2011 visit to Evergreen Speedway. These pre 1948 race cars are similar to old east coast mods that many of the original stars of NASCAR performed in. A local driver that travels with the series knows the 3/8-mile oval well. That is where he got his start in the WWRA group. Jim Jones of Monroe, WA returns to where he gained championships in the WWRA Modified and Lightning Truck Divisions.

Pre-Race and during breaks in the action, the ‘Below Average White Band’ with radio personality Jeff ‘The Fish’ Aaron on drums will perform for the fans.

Front gates are scheduled to open at 4pm and the racing action gets going at 6pm. Call 360-805-6100 for more information or see the web page at www.evergreenspeedway .com also can be seen on facebook and twitter.
