A SEASON IN REVIEW

A SEASON IN REVIEW.

With the 2011 Evergreen Speedway Awards banquet now in the books, we can reflect on High Roads first year of operation.  First and foremost, thank you the drivers, teams and families for putting on some of the best auto racing not seen for decades!  To our Speedway Sponsors and Driver Sponsors, you are what drives this sport and we all appreciate what you do for all of us!

There are so many people to thank and so much to be thankful for.  I am thankful we had no serious injuries to our drivers or crew members.  With Karting, Street Drags, Drifting, Club events, timed autocross, demo derbies, stunt shows, and our weekly NASCAR series it was a busy season.

From the early weeks of February when so many of the race teams volunteered their time to scrape bleachers and railings to painting everything in sight, it certainly set the tone for an all new beginning.   Thank you so much for helping to restore our historic race track.  The skilled professionals at Alternative Blasters and Powder Coating Inc. turned rusty metal into like new gates and flag stand with their generous donation of time and materials!

From the beginning of our rebuilding process this season there are several key team members I want to acknowledge.  Steve Cantrell is our Facilities Manager, tasked with the major clean-up, painting and repair projects.  Steve worked tirelessly for months on the track, grandstands and race office painting, as well as surface repairs and building upgrades.  There is no way to measure the value of a true long-time friends and skilled craftsman.  I am so indebted and appreciative of friends like Steve, Bruce Ching, Larry Conley, Greg Galloway, Debbie Vogel, Lori Cantrell and Susan Zeger. Susan handled many of the office, ticketing, payroll and back gate duties.  Bruce is a Marketing and Customer Service Specialist that the term multi-tasking was made for.  Without this group, life would have been extremely tough to get us through the season.  Never did I have to ask for help. This group of great friends was always there.   More acknowledgements go to our kids RaChelle, Ben, John and Derek. It is tough launching a new business in a new venture.  I am so proud of the family for their efforts and sacrifices running 7 day a week operation.  Filling many unfamiliar part time and full time roles made for lots of cross training.  And no one killed each other!  (Ben did blow himself up in a Dizzy Stunt) and did a great job announcing our Demo Derby and thrill shows.

A special thank you to Jan Ellsworth for all your efforts and hard work.  Scott Ellsworth, the voice of Evergreen is the consummate professional, putting retirement on hold loving what he does. Jillian Adams did a great job in videography plus many other office and back gate duties.  Thank you to Bert Johnson, formerly the GM at Port Angeles Speedway.  Bert offered experience and helped supply equipment, while helping launch our first season.  The Crew of Conley, Breanne, De Ann, Amy, Troy, Jr. Jay, RJ, Alex and the Draper Kids did a great job in the pits and in the towers.  New to the scene was Alan Porter, former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Official, who handled EMS and Sweep management.  Team Evergreen was well represented by our EMS and Safety staff.  I want to personally thank so many drivers and families for going the extra distance but I am afraid I will leave someone out!  Last, but certainly not least, a sincere thank you to my wife Traci. Her marketing skills, event expertise, and vision for colors and creative design have turned much of what was blah into something pretty cool.  Traci’s customer service and sponsorship skills are breaking new ground for our company.

We employed some of the greatest young adults a business could ever ask for!  Representing High Schools throughout Snohomish and King County, we are proud of their work ethic and team approach. To our class of 2011 College Interns, we loved what you did to promote our company!  It takes hundreds of staff to produce over 150 races, practices and special events.  With the addition of the new MX and ATV track, 2012 will be a fun year.  To the Woodinville Posse and the Vaters-Extra Kudos!

In closing, 2011 was just the beginning. I am very proud of our efforts and know we have just started the process.  Our eventual goal is to be the best racing facility in the region.  2012 promises to be bigger and better.  We look forward to a great year with many new events in store!

Thank you EVERYONE!

Doug
