On Saturday night July 14 at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA, NASCAR will reign supreme. NASCAR’s  only West Coast traveling series takes to the BIG Track the 5/8-mile oval for the annual NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by Gene Price Motorsports featuring the K&N Pro Series West teams. This series has been the catalyst for drivers to reach the upper divisions of NASCAR over the years. In addition to the 150-lap race for the K&N cars there will be a 100-lap race on the BIG Track for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models in the 1st annual Rodland Toyota 100. This will feature many of the top Northwest drivers and teams in the $4,000.00 to win race with $400.00 to start. Two more popular local NASCAR divisions will be on the BIG Track, the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks and the Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks/ Outlaw Compacts will each have their individual feature events. To get all this in there will be a special starting time of 5pm with front spectator gates opening at 2pm.

Many of the superstars of tomorrow will be at Evergreen to hone their skills on the track many consider too tough to tame. Evergreen Speedway and the K&N Pro Series West have a long standing tradition over the years with the series appearing at the 58 year old racing mecca 48 times. Many of yesterdays and todays stars of NASCAR have raced on the BIG Track on their way to the top divisions of NASCAR.

The local Super Late Model division of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series is back with a hotly contested 2012 championship chase in full swing. Race #7 of the 18 race series will feature current point leader Naima Lang a two time winner this season and the defending division champion. Kelly Mann is hot on Lang’s heels for the title and has one win this season, coming at the last point’s race which was on the BIG Track. Third in points Andy Sole is coming off a third place finish in the Summer Showdown two weeks ago his best ever Super Late Model finish. Doug Davidson is fourth in the chase with 17 year old Molly Helmuth just 6-points back in fifth. Helmuth is vying to be the first female Super Late Model Racer in the history of Evergreen Speedway to finish in the top ten in the point standings. Another large field of Late Models is expected for the Rodland Toyota 100, all after the winners share of the large purse. Former champion John Zaretzke will bring his new car to try and win his first race of the season.

In another local NASCAR division Steve Ptacek has won five of the six Street Stock races this season including the only other BIG Track race. Ptacek has the edge on his divisional foes for the 2012 championship albeit with a long way to go until championship night in September. A great battle is on for the second in points with Frank Cowgill and Kenny Erickson tied and just two points behind them is Tim Widener. In her first race in many years, Jill Lang finished third the last time this division was on the BIG Track. Another that is tough on the BIG Track is defending division champion Joe Kneeland.

Jon Roberts is leading the chase in the NASCAR Mini-Stock division with four wins of the six races in 2012. Roberts is pursuing his first ever championship after finishing third in the chase in each of the last three seasons. Michael Fritz sits second in the chase with Andrew Shukar third and Chuck Richard fourth. Add in the Outlaw Compact series to the mix for the feature on Saturday night and anyone is capable of mastering the BIG Track.

The start time has been moved up an hour to accommodate the four divisions/series. 5pm is when the racing will begin with spectator gates opening at 2pm. It is general admission prices for reserved seating so get there early to get the best seats although there is no bad seat at Evergreen Speedway. Evergreen Speedway is located at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, WA where Highways 2 and 522 collide. For tickets and information go to www.evergreenspeedway.com or call 360-805-6100.
