Curtis Wins Figure 8 Main
Chris Curtis just out of retirement won the 100-lap Emerald City Harley-Davidson in Lynnwood Super Figure Eight main at Evergreen Speedway on Seattle Sun Tan Night. Other winners were Dave Lund of the 30-lap Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stock feature. Jon Roberts won the 30-lap main for the Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks. Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8 main went to Gary Rarden. The visiting FSCRA Super 4 Late Model main winner was Jeff Jones. The clear weather night of racing was part of the annual Evergreen State Fair.
Curtis, only running the Boney Brothers car for the second time this season, took Liberty (name of the car) to its first win this season. Curtis was able to take advantage on lap77, of traffic at the intersection of the figure eight, when leader Nick Gunderson had to slow to avoid contact. Gunderson kept full pressure on Curtis the remaining laps and was unable to get by finishing a close second. Third went to Doug Delfel and fourth to Quinton Borreson.
Street Stock division winner Lund grabbed the lead on lap six and never gave it up. Jason McQuinn finished second and closed the gap for the division championship. Current point leader Roger Drake finished a distant 6th. McQuinn won his heat race and Drake finished second in his. That unofficially equates to a 9-point gain for McQuinn. Drake opened the night with a 27-point advantage. With three races remaining in that many weeks for this division, it looks to be very tight all the way to championship night on September 14th. Finishing third in the 30-lap main was newcomer Kevin Compton. Steve Ptacek and Darrell Lutovsky rounded out the top five of the 21-car turnout.
Roberts kept up his winning ways and the points lead for the 2013 Mini-Stock Division Championship by winning for the 6th time this season. Roberts inherited the lead on lap eleven when leader Chuck Richard exploded an engine. Second place went to Scott Burby and third to Ryan Rasmussen. Rookies Sheridan Horn-Vincent and Mike Marthaller Jr. made up the remainder of the top five.
The winner of the Stinger 8 main Rarden won his first ever race in this division. Rarden took the lead on lap 15 of 30 and was able to avoid traffic to gain that first win. Nicole Pollard and Todd Stilwell finished a close second and third respectively. Fourth and fifth went to Joselyn LaFleur and Jessica Gray.
For the visiting FSCRA Super 4 Late Model Series it came down to the final lap and the final run off turn four to the checkers to decide the winner. Jones running second got the lead on lap 33 of the 40-lap main. John Grosvenor got the lead back as the two headed to turn one on the final lap. Grosvenor had the slight edge exiting turn four as the checkers were waving but Jones won the drag race back to the line. Third went to Gracin Raz followed by Max Schroeder and Scott Graf.
