Evergreen Speedway Announces Inaugural Don Scriver Memorial Fast Time Award Presented by JOES Racing Products
$1,000 to Super Late Model Division’s Fast Time Winner at June’s Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash.
Monroe, WA (April 28, 2014) – Evergreen Speedway and JOES Racing Products are pleased to announce the inaugural Don Scriver Memorial Fast Time Award, which will be awarded to the fastest qualifier in the super late model division at Evergreen Speedway’s Summer Showdown June 27-28.
Scriver, a two-time NASCAR Northwest Series champion car owner with retired driver Kevin Hamlin, passed away after a long battle with lung cancer on January 1st, 2014. Scriver also owned and sponsored cars for Travis Bennett from 2000 to 2008. Bennett was a four-time ASA Northwest Tour winner and the 2004 NASCAR Northwest Series championship runner-up finisher and also won Rookie of the Year honors that year.
“Dad had been a race fan all of his life, and had been attending races at Evergreen for over 40 years,” said Darren Scriver, Don’s youngest son. “We thought a fast time award in his name would be a great way to keep his memory alive with people he loved being with every weekend for such a long time. To have Evergreen and JOES Racing Products to get on board with this, especially at the Northwest’s biggest race, means a lot to our family and to the members of DS Racing we had with Kevin and Travis over the years.”
“Donnie was like a second father to Travis and myself,” said Hamlin, who now spots for Kasey Kahne in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. “He was loved by everyone in the northwest racing community, and always had a smile on his face. We wouldn’t have been able to put this together without the help of Evergreen and JOES.”
“We couldn’t be happier to be a part of this award,” said Joe Constance, founder of JOES Racing Products, a manufacturer of high-end racing tools and accessories. “Donnie was an important figure in the northwest racing community, and to be a part of this fast time award at the Northwest’s premier asphalt race is pretty cool for us.”
The Summer Showdown will be held on the .646 mile oval at Evergreen Speedway June 27-28. The race is the Northwest’s highest paying event with $20,000 to the winner and over a $100,000 total purse, which was won by Jay Sauls in 2013 and Pete Harding in 2012.
