Evergreen Speedway Saturday April 6 Results
The annual Mark Galloway 150 Shootout presented by Les Schwab Tires at Evergreen Speedway, was partially postponed due to the inclement weather. The 150-lap portion of the program for the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models on the 5/8-mile oval had to be postponed until Saturday May 25 because of persistent rain. With 32 cars committed for the $6000.00 to win event it was tough for track officials to have to postpone. But keeping with Evergreen Speedway’s rain or shine policy the remainder of the scheduled program went off without a hitch. The Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stock main was won by Roger Drake. Defending division champion Jon Roberts won the Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stock main. The first ever 3/8-mile oval main for the Interstate Batteries NASCAR Hornet Division was won by Zach Bristol. It was also Bristol’s first ever win. The fans stayed dry under the covered grandstands.
Roger Drake was able to use the outside groove even though wet to move up around the field to grab the lead and gain his first win of the season in the Street Stock Division. The inside groove had dried as the rain had ended and Drake took advantage of his many laps on Evergreen’s 3/8-mile paved oval in wet conditions to his advantage by going to the outside and the win of the 30-lap main. Jim Foti finished second after a heated battle with third place finisher Jason McQuinn.
The Mini-Stock Division main winner Jon Roberts, won the 2012 season championship and set the tone that he is back to defend his title. Taking the lead of the 30-lap main early on Roberts lapped the entire field and cruised to the win. Second place went to Travis Woodward and third went to Douglas Hinds.
It was a first for the Hornet Division to be racing on the 3/8-mile oval and a first for the winner Zach Bristol. Bristol won his first main event after a few years of trying. It did not come without a scare. On a restart with 5 laps to go in the 20-lap main, John Hilburn got along side Bristol and briefly got slightly ahead. But Bristol’s knowledge of racing on a wet surface paid off as he was able to pull back in front for the remainder of the race. Hilburn finished third and Jaime Corbett finished second.
