Evergreen Speedway Set to Open 60th Season
Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington is ready to start its 60th season at the fabled racing facility. The first of many special events, to commemorate this monumental year, is set for Saturday night March 29. Nelson Motorsports presents the Annual Rain or Shine Scout Night Season Opener featuring Train Racing, Interstate Batteries Hornets, Renegades, Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8’s, Mr. Dizzy Stunt, Small Car Demo Derby, Chain & Go Demo and the Season Opener Fireworks Display. All Scouts (Boy and Girl) in uniform admitted free. Spectator Gates open at 4pm with the start of the season at 6pm.
On Saturday April 5 the 60th season continues with the NASCAR opener featuring a special Super Late Model race on the 3/8-mile paved oval. The Coca Cola 125 Challenge with $4,000.00 going to the winner and $400.00 to start the 125-lap main. In addition the season starts for Street Stocks, Mini-Stocks, Super Stock Figure Eights and the Stinger 8’s are back. Start times are the same Spectator gates at 4pm and Racing at 6pm.
The season will be highlighted by two NASCAR marquee events. The Summer Showdown on June 27 and 28 will have the largest ever Super Late Model purse at Evergreen Speedway and in the Northwest. The 200 lap race on the BIG 5/8-mile will have over $100,000.00 in prize money with an unprecedented $20,000.00 to the winner. Entries and calls are already pouring in by teams from all over the country. The other special will be the annual visit by NASCAR’s premier West Coast Division, the K&N Pro Series West on Saturday August 16 with a 150-lap race on the BIG track and a 100-lap race for the Super Late Models.
There will be special throwback nights commemorating each of the 6 decades with special pricing and very special guests. During the season ten more drivers will be added to the list of the 50 Best Drivers to ever appear at Evergreen Speedway. The original 50 were named during the 50th season. That original 50 has many great names including Hershel McGriff, Roy Smith, Derrick Cope, Bill Elliott, Geoff Bodine, Ken Schrader, Chad Little, David Pearson, Sterling Marlin, Ron Hornaday Jr., Mike Bliss, Bill Sedgwick, Tom Sneva, Pete Harding and Ron Eaton to mention a select few. There are many local drivers on that list and more to make it to the top 60.
Many race tracks around the world have come and gone in the last 60-years but only a select few have endured through the 6 decades. Congratulations and awards will be coming to Evergreen Speedway during the season. Recently NASCAR named Evergreen Speedway as one of their top ten (#3) weekly tracks in North America. Present promoters Doug and Traci Hobbs were named the Western Region Promoters of the Year.
