Families, Mascots and Repeat Winners on May 31
Saturday May 31 was another successful Family Night by Frontier Communications at Evergreen Speedway. There was fantastic weather and over 10 mascots representing many organizations. The racing had 18 year old Chad Fitzpatrick get his second win this season in his Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stock. The new Super Stock Figure 8 Division winner was Quenton Borreson, his third this season. Another local division was the Interstate Batteries Hornets and Mark Hubbard picked up his third win. Three traveling series were on hand with Troy Globe winning the WMRA main, Aaron Greene winning the Pro 4 Truck feature and John Grosvenor won the FSCRA Super 4 Late Model main.
Chad Fitzpatrick, a student at Lake Stevens High School, won his second feature in the Street Stock Division. Fitzpatrick, last season Rookie of the Year in this division, has made it to victory twice in the past three races. Last season’s champion and current point leader Roger Drake, who had won four of the first six races this season, had his first DNF this season. Fitzpatrick took the lead early in the 30-lap main and was never challenged. Second place went to Joe Kneeland followed by rookie Kevin Compton. Steve Ptacek and Brent Roher battled to the line for fourth and fifth. The division has a few weeks off before they resume their chase to the championship. Back on the 3/8-mile on June 21 and on the 5/8-mile on June 27.
‘The One Armed Bandit’ Quenton Borreson won the Super Stock Figure 8 main. Borreson has been the class of this fledgling division so far this season winning three of the four races. Once in the lead Borreson drove away from his closest competitor and cruised to the win. Even though driving with one arm, Borreson makes it look easy. Second place went to Doug Delfel, with Jessie Bertino finishing third. Fourth and fifth were Chuck Widdis and John Hilburn respectively.
Mark Hubbard raced around point leader Scott Hunt with 10-laps to go in the Hornet Division main and went on to a comfortable win. Hunt finished second to maintain the point lead. Third on the road course called the Boot was Zach Bristol ahead of Cody Hoopes. Fifth went to Mike Daher.
WMRA (Washington Midget Racing Association) winner Troy Globe held off Aaron Willison in a spirited race for the lead for a majority of the 25-laps. Willison tried and tried to no avail and had to settle for second. Third went to Sawyer Lind with Skeeter Flake fourth and Bobby Bird fifth.
Aaron Greene following his son Mat who was ahead and the leader until the truck that mat was driving spun going into turn one with half of the feature to go for the Pro 4 Truck Series. Once Mat spun, dad Greene took over and went on to win the 30-lap main. Second went to Mat who after having to go to the back after the spin. Third, fourth and fifth went to Rick Shaver, Mike Tipps and Haylie Wilkinson in that order.
Early leader and looking like he would be the main event winner of the FSCRA Super 4 Late Model Series, Tom Pinkowsky was cruising when John Grosvenor finally caught and passed to take the lead and the win. Pinkowsky finished second with Jeff Jones third. Fourth went to Kayla Pittman and fifth to Andy Halbert.
