Harding Winner of SLM Feature
On Saturday July 13 at Evergreen Speedway, Shane Harding returned to the track where he won two championships and won the 75-lap feature for the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models. Also in action were the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks with Joe Kneeland a former champion winning the 30-lap feature. The Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stock division feature winner was Scott Burby. Interstate Batteries NASCAR Hornet Division feature winner was Cyril Greenawalt. It was the annual Spirit 105.3 Faith and Family Night with great weather and crowd enjoying the spirited racing at ‘The Northwest Center of Racing’.
Harding took only 32-laps to gain the lead in the Super Late Model 75-lap main that had 14 cars take the green flag. With four drivers attempting to get the lead from Harding during the second half. Each were unsuccessful. Harding who only makes rare appearances at the track where he won two championships. In the post race interview Harding stated that he will be back for the next 3/8-mile race on July 27 as part of the Emerald City Harley-Davidson presents Figure Eight Nationals night at the races. Second place went to Doni Wanat and third to Daniel Moore.
In the 30-lap feature for the Street Stocks, Kneeland was very strong with no one was able to deny him his second win of the season. In second it was points leader Roger Drake in pursuit of his first ever NASCAR championship to go with his many with WWRA. Third went to Darrel Lutovsky.
Mini-Stock feature winner Burby was also a winner that was not to be denied. Winning in strong fashion Burby left no doubt it was his night. Second place went to Chuck Richard and a first Mini-Stock podium finish for Mark Marthaller Jr.
Greenawalt in his Hornet loves the road course and proved his prowess. Winning the 20-lap feature and on the podium where he is becoming a regular many nights. With the points lead in this division, Greenawalt is in the running for a first ever NASCAR championship. Second place went to Mark Hubbard and third to Jaime Corbett.
Next up at Evergreen Speedway is the annual appearance of the Formula D Drift Series on July 19 & 20. The next racing event is on July 27 with the annual Figure Eight Nationals presented by Emerald city Harley-Davidson. 150-laps for the Emerald City Lynnwood Harley-Davidson Super/Stock Figure Eights plus the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models, Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks, Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks all on the 3/8-mile. In addition the zany Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8′s are back at it on the NW fastest figure eight surface. Racing action begins at 6pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm.
