The annual Evergreen State Fair and Evergreen Speedway team up for the Labor Day Weekend for Saturday August 31, Sunday September 1 and Monday September 2. On Saturday Northsound Racing presents NASCAR Night featuring twin 50-lap mains on the 3/8-mile oval for the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models plus the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks, the Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks and the Interstate Batteries Hornets. On Sunday it is the annual Evergreen State Fair demo Derby presented by Coastal Community Bank. The night features a Large Car Demo Derby, Mr. Dizzy Stunts, Emerald City Harley-Davidson in Lynwood Super/Stock Figure Eights, Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8’s, V-8 Extremes and a Giant Fireworks Display. Both Saturday and Sunday’s racing gets underway at 6pm. On Monday the Evergreen Drag Racing program takes to the track for the DeYoung Inc. Dash for Cash starting at 11am through the afternoon.

The point’s battle in two of the NASCAR divisions is extremely close. In the Super Late Models Daniel Moore has a 16-point edge on Tom Moriarity and Doni Wanat. Both Moore and Wanat are after their first championship while Moriarity has six. In the Street Stock Division Roger Drake has an 18-point spread on Jason McQuinn. Both Drake and McQuinn are after their first division title. The twin 50-lap mains for the SLM’s makes this a double points night with one race left and that being the championship night on September 14 on the BIG track. The SS have two more after Saturday the first on September 7 and the championship on September 14.

The Mini-Stocks and Hornets are running. Jon Roberts has the championship all but won in the MS division as he is making it a repeat of last year’s championship. In the Hornet division point leader Cyril Greenawalt has a 20-point margin over Scott Hunt. Both are after their first. MS championship night is September 14 and for the Hornets it is on September 21.

Both the Super Figure Eights and the Stinger 8’s go at it on Sunday as art of the Derby night. Their championship night is on September 21 and each only has that one race remaining. Ricky Dietz holds the points lead in the SF8 and Todd Stilwell in the S8 divisions. Sunday’s SF8 will be an open-comp with $1000 to win non points race.
