Lang Wins Can-Am 125
Naima Lang won the $5000 to win Genie Industries Can-Am 125 on the BIG track at Evergreen Speedway on August 17 for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models. The NAPA Auto Parts NASCAR K&N Pro Series West ‘Evergreen 150’ presented by Toyota was won by Dylan Lupton.
Lang the defending and four time champion of the Super Late Model Division had not been to victory stage since the opening night for this division back in May. Taking an early lead Lang pulled out to an almost five second lead on the second place car. A caution then a red flag as the track was greased down by a car leaking rear end fluid at lap 114 brought the field back together. On the double file restart Lang lost the lead to Tyler Tanner. Tanner led until another caution came out. On a green-white-checker restart Lang won the restart and was able to gain the victory. Tanner finished second. Third went to new points leader Daniel Moore. Doni Wanat finished fourth with Gary Lewis the fast qualifier finishing fifth. Austin Reed who came all the way from Mooresville, North Carolina finished sixth.
The end of the 150-lap K&N Pro Series West race was exciting. The two leaders at the time Eric Holmes and Derek Thorn got together going into turn one on a late race restart and slid up into the wall taking young Giles Thornton with them. The lead then went to Dylan Lupton who was able to avoid the wreck. Lupton hung on for his first ever win in the series and it was also his first trip to Evergreen. Second place went to Greg Pursley followed by Derek Thorn. Thorn was able to recover from the wreck while both Holmes and Thornton were done with too much damage. Holmes ended up 13th and Thornton 14th. Thornton 15-years old from Whitefish, Montana ran a strong race on his first time to Evergreen and looked like a top five finisher all day until the incident he could not avoid.
