Saturday night May 10 at Evergreen Speedway it is Military Tribute Night presented by Coastal Community Bank. All active Military will receive a free family pass admitting two adults and up to four children. The night will feature the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Model 75 on the 3/8-mile paved oval presented by Emerald City Harley-Davidson of Lynnwood. There will be five Super Late ModeIs carrying the emblem of a branch of our great military. In addition the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stock 30-laps, Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8 30-laps, Interstate Batteries Hornets 25-laps (road course) and Super Stock Figure 8 25-laps. Racing begins at 6pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm.

The second race of the young Super Late Model season is set for this Saturday. Opening race winner Mike Holden will return to see if he can string back-to-back wins to start his season. Four time Track and State of Washington NASCAR Champion Naima Lang is expected back after the accident that ended his night early. Last year’s champion Daniel Moore will be vying for a better finish than his third to start his defense of the title. Second generation driver Tyler Tanner via his second place finish showed that he will be someone to contend with for the championship and track rookie of the year. Another great car count is expected for the 75-lap main on the 3/8-mile oval. Next up for this division is the Galloway 150 on the 5/8-mile oval on May 24.

Street Stock point leader Roger Drake has started his defense of last year’s title matching last season’s start with three straight wins. Last season Drake finished third in his fourth race. It will be an interesting race to see if Drake is mirroring last season. Even with the three straight Drake only leads by 12-points over Darrell Lutovsky. Third place only 18-points off the pace are Jim Foti and Steve Ptacek. This rain or shine division is always competitive with the championship not decided until the final night of racing in September.

Stinger 8’s a 4-cylinder figure eight division is another competitive bunch. Current point leader for the 2014 championship is Toby Jenkins a rookie. In second is Joselyn LaFleur who won last week’s Stinger Nationals. LaFleur trails by 5-points. Matt Somerville is 9-points in arrears in third.

As with many of Evergreen’s divisions going to the last night of racing to decide a season champion the Hornets have done the same. Last season the championship was decided on the last lap last turn on who would be the 2013 champ. Losing by just 2-points Scott Hunt is this season’s leader by 25-points. Even though 25-points seems comfortable things could change quickly and with a slew of races to go until championship night Hunt needs to stay on top of his game. Zach Bristol is second in the chase with Cody Hoopes just 6-points behind.

Quenton Borreson ‘The One Armed Bandit’ leads the new Super Stock Figure 8 Division points. Steve peters who won one main this season is in second 15-points back of Borreson. Doug Delfel is third just 4-points behind Peters.
