Speed Week ’13 at Evergreen Speedway August 12-17
The biggest and fastest NASCAR short track West of the Mississippi, Evergreen Speedway, a NASCAR Top 10 track, will host the Genie Can-Am 125 for Super Late Models in conjunction with the NAPA Auto Parts NASCAR K&N Pro West Series 150 presented by Toyota on the same night as part of Speed Week 2013.
The weeklong event kicks off Monday August 12th with Media Day and complimentary ride-a-longs with the Richard Petty Driving Experience for media and sponsors. Throughout the week, the RPDE teams will be holding classes and driving schools for fans throughout the West Coast and Canada. The cars driven are real NASCAR Cup Cars. Evergreen Speedway is the only Short Track in America to host the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Entering their second year at Evergreen Speedway, fans in the Pacific Northwest would normally have to travel to tracks in Las Vegas, Daytona, Talladega or Orlando to experience the thrill at 130+ mph! Friday Night August 16th, is the NAPA Auto Parts FREE Fan Fest from 5pm to 10pm. Following the NASCAR practice, fans can take pictures with the cars, get autographs and listen to great live music.
Saturday August 17th, the NASCAR Pro Series West tour makes their annual visit to Evergreen Speedway. The NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by Toyota is a Speed Channel event which showcases drivers throughout the Country who have their sights on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The second featured event on Saturday night is the Genie Can Am 125 featuring the greatest local, regional, national, Canadian and West Coast Super Late Model drivers.
Entries are already coming in for the Genie Can-Am 125 with drivers from as far away as Mooresville, North Carolina and throughout the Western United States and Canada. Race one of the three Super Late Model majors in 2013 was the Mark Galloway 150 Shootout presented by Central Welding Supply and Jason Fraser (Snohomish, WA) won the winners share of the $. Race two was the Annual Coors Light Summer Showdown 200 presented by NAPA Auto Parts with Jay Sauls (Tacoma, WA)winning the $12k winner’s check. Both drivers are expected with many of their closest competitors trying to get the $5000.00 winner’s share of the large purse.
Coming from Mooresville, NC is Austin Reed (19-years old). Reed has already gained notoriety at a young age. Currently running in the Southeast PASS series with three top ten finishes and two consecutive top five performances. The California native finished second in Championship Points on the 2010 SRL Southwest Tour Series. Reed has also won many times in his Legend Car across the country. This will be Austin’s first visit to Evergreen Speedway.
Another young driver (16-years old)that is drawing much attention is Hannah Newhouse of Twin Falls, Idaho. Newhouse, the daughter of John Newhouse who has won many a big race in his racing career, is currently running in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series a Super Late Model series that travels the Idaho and Utah area. Hannah is currently in fourth in championship points will be making her first trip to the 5/8-mile at Evergreen Speedway.
As the race draws near Speedway officials will be adding many names to the list of drivers for both the NASCAR K&N Pro West 150 and the Can-Am Super Late Model 125.
The speedway has made arrangements for RV/Camping spaces at the Fairgrounds for a discount. Friday and Saturday nights stay is only $25 prepaid.
Evergreen Speedway is pleased to have Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and the former lead guitarist of Heart Roger Fisher performing the National Anthem on Saturday August 17.
