With the Summer Solstice here it means only one thing at the Northwest’s biggest race track Evergreen Speedway, it is time for the Coors Light Summer Showdown presented by NAPA Auto Parts on June 27, 28 & 29th. The West Coast’s biggest race, the $12,000.00 to win 200-lap Super Late Model race on the Northwest’s longest track the 5/8-mile oval, is bringing the best in the West to the “Super Speedway of the West’. Drivers from the U.S. and Canada will be vying for one of the coveted 33 starting spots in the Summer Showdown. Just for making the field the racer receives $1,000.00. Evergreen Speedway is located in Monroe, WA at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds.

Many of the best in the West will be on hand including one of the youngest starting fields in the long history of Super Late Model racing in the Northwest. Blake Williams the 17 year old will be making the trek from Eastern Washington to Monroe for the first time. Just graduating this past week from high school, Molly Helmuth the 17 year old from Seattle, WA will make her second start in the Summer Showdown. 16-year old Garrett Archer of Kent, WA will also be making his second attempt at making the 33-car field. Another female racer Jessica Dana, 19-years old, will be racing with the many older veterans of Super Late Model racing. Throw in other young hard charging lions such as: Jon Hubbert, Daniel Moore, Tyler Tanner and John Lathrop Jr. all being part of the youth movement to this style of racing.

The Summer Showdowns gets started on Thursday June 27 with the Free Admission to the fans for the Coors Light Fan Fest. The evening will feature practice from 5-8pm for the Summer Showdown Super Late Models plus food, live music, vendors and autographs. The teams will be served free chili and drinks. The night will also include the qualifying order draw. Drivers will come on stage and draw a can of Coors Light that will have a number which will be the qualifying order for Friday night.

Friday June 28 is the all important night to find out who locks themselves into one of the 33 starting positions. Each car will qualify via the time-clock on the BIG 5/8-mile oval. Their corresponding times will determine their starting position in one of the night’s 25-lap Qualifying Races. The finishes of the Qualifying Races will determine their starting position in Saturday’s Summer Showdown. In addition the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks and Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks will each have main events on the BIG track.

Saturday June 29 the evening starts at 4pm with the Last Chance Qualifier with cars that did not lock in on Friday attempting to fill remaining positions to make up the 33-car field for the 2013 Summer Showdown. The traveling Pro 4 Alliance Series will also be here for their annual race on the 5/8-mile. Over 30-cars are expected with this 4-cylinder Late Model group. The evening ends with the running of the 200-lap Coors Light Summer Showdown presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

This year’s Summer Showdown has a few changes to it. Yellow Flag laps will be counted. If a long caution period is expected they will throw the red. Restarts will be double file without the cone. More emergency equipment, clean-up and tow vehicles will be on hand if needed. The track has obtained a twin turbo blower to assist in cleaning the track and drying if necessary. The Moto-Cross track has been changed to give more room off track and improve the sight lines for the fans. There will be a mid-race break at lap 100 for fuel and tires.

The Speedway has discounted RV/Camping spots available at the fairgrounds. For tickets, registration or camping go to or call 360-805-6117.
