Summer Showdown Set for June 27-29

The 2nd annual Coors Light Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway on June 27th-29th is the largest three day racing event in the Pacific Northwest. This mid-summer classic will once again bring the best Super Late Model racers to the largest track in the Northwest. Over 42 teams from several Western States and Canada came to Evergreen in 2012 for the inaugural event. This year’s event will be bigger and better based on early car counts. Champion Drivers throughout the West are vying for their chance to become this year’s Summer Showdown winner.

The winner’s share of the Summer Showdown purse rises to $12,000.00 with $1,000.00 for starting the 34-car 200-lap event. The total purse for the three days of racing is over $80,000.00. This year’s action includes the Summer Showdown 200 for Super Late Models, Les Schwab Tires Street Stocks, Foster Press Mini-Stocks, and the traveling Pro Four Alliance Series.

The FREE Coors Light Fan Fest on Thursday evening kicks off the three day extravaganza. The day begins with Summer Showdown practice session for the Super Late Models only from 5pm-8pm. The Fans will be able to enjoy free admission with live music, great food and drink and an autograph session. New to this year’s Fan Fest will be a FREE Chili Feed and BBQ for the drivers and crew members. At the conclusion of the practice there will be  a drawing for qualifying order by the contestants in the Summer Showdown 200. Each racer will come on stage and draw a can of Coors Light that will have a number on the bottom. That number will be the order in which they qualify. Interviews with these drivers will also be a part of this new festivity.

Friday June 28th gets started early with qualifying at 4pm for the Les Schwab Street Stocks, Foster Press Mini-Stocks and the Super Late Models for the Summer Showdown 200. Racing begins at 6:30pm with the Mini-Stock and Street Stock mains on the 5/8. They will be followed by the 25-lap qualifying heats for the Super Late Models of the Summer Showdown.

Saturday June 29th starts early with practice sessions for the Last Chance Qualifying race for the Summer Showdown, Pro 4 Alliance Series and the Summer Showdown qualified cars. The racing begins early with a 50-lap Last Chance Qualifier. The Pro 4 Alliance then takes to the 5/8-mile oval as the prelude to the Summer Showdown. At 7:00pm the Coors Light Summer Showdown goes green. 200-laps later we will crown this year’s Summer Showdown winner, $12,000.00 richer!

Rules for the Summer Showdown are posted on the Evergreen Speedway web site at Registration is available on the web site. Car Numbers, Pit Stalls, Tire Purchase and Pill Draw Order will all be by the registration received date.

Evergreen Speedway has made a few changes for this year’s Summer Showdown. From infield redesign, counting caution laps, elimination of the cone restarts, use of the lucky dog for lapped down cars.

New equipment purchases to ensure quicker cleanup include a new twin turbine blower, on site broom truck, new safety vehicles, plus new sweep-safety staff. Additional tow trucks, Fire and EMS staff and improved fire response equipment have been added this season.

On the customer service side, Evergreen Speedway is now the concessionaire for the first time ever in the 58 year history.

On Monday June 24, the World Famous Richard Petty Driving Experience returns for the second year.  RPDE will be on track Monday June 24th for Media Day.
