Whelen Night Features Super Late Models & BIG Track June 8
On Saturday June 8 at Evergreen Speedway the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models will be on the BIG track the 5/8-mile paved oval for 75-laps. It will be Whelen Night presented by Grocery Outlet Bargain Market for the Summer Showdown warm-up. The night will also feature the FSCRA Super Late Model 4’s on the 3/8. In addition the West Coast Street Stock Series (WCSSS), Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks and Columbia River Legends are on the 3/8-mile paved oval. The main events start at 6pm with heat races at 4pm. Another cannot miss night at the ‘Super Speedway of the West’.
Super Late Models in their last run on the BIG track before the Summer Showdown later in the month. Over 20 teams are expected to be there on Saturday for the 75-lap main. Winner of the Mark Galloway 150 Shootout, Jason Fraser will be vying for two-in-a-row. Winner of last year’s Summer Showdown Pete Harding will be tuning up for the West Coast’s biggest Super Late Model race on June 27-29. Others that are committed are: 4-time track champion Naima Lang, 6-time champion Tom Moriarity, tied for second in season championship points Daniel Moore and Doni Wanat, fifth in points 16-year old Garrett Archer, Jeff Knight, Brian Cottrell, Scott LaCross, Andy Sole, Shane Sawin, John Boyatt, Tommy Rasmussen and 17-year old Molly Helmuth. Also last week’s winner at South Sound Speedway Tyler Tanner and Rod Schultz Sr. are among the 20 plus that are expected.
The FSCRA has not been to Evergreen in many years. These 4-cylinder Late Model cars will be on the 3/8-mile for their 30-lap main.
WCSSS will be here for the North Sound Racing .com 50. A full contingent of the Northwest best Street Stock drivers are expected. Dave Lund a local driver will be on hand. Series point leader Andy Stibel, Zack Beaman, Glen Knutson, Randy Pugh, Bryon Goetz, Buck Noel Jr., Kelly Hellewell, Kim Winnerberg and Todd Connell are the top ten in points and are all expected. Add in the local drivers form Evergreen’s Street Stock division and another 20 plus car count expected for the 50-lap main on the 3/8-mile oval.
Point leader in the local Mini-Stock division Jon Roberts has the lead over Travis Woodward heading into the nights action. Always a great field and a competitive race is what is the norm for this division in their 30-lap feature on the 3/8-mile.
Columbia River Legends will be making their first visit to Evergreen Speedway. Legends are 5/8-scale replica cars of the early days of NASCAR. This mini replicas are powered by motorcycle engines and are very fast on the 3/8-mile oval. Their main will be for 25-laps.
Heat races are at 4pm followed by a Fan Fest at 5pm. Opening Ceremonies and Main Events start at 6pm.
